Health is always an important factor in all of our lives. It is everyone’s prority to maintain a good health. This is also true with other animals. Like humans, they too, have health to take care of and diseases to prevent. Disease is any undesirable condition that is occurring in the organism’s body.
Good examples of disease are: infectious, hereditary, skin, orthopaedic eye illnesses and many more. Infectious diseases are those diseases that can easily be transmitted and contracted. I chose to discuss this type of disease simply because since they are easily contracted, this kind is the most common occurring disease.

Dog’s Typical Infectious Diseases

1.      Coronavirus-The method of transmission and symptoms are same as that of Parvovirus. Gastro-intestinal tract is the one that is mainly affected.
2.       Parvovirus- a disease that is spread via infected dogs’ feces, throw-up or blood. Signs and symptoms include bloody diarrhea, lethargy, vomiting, fever, loss of appetite and dehydration. Their feces have distinct odor.
3.       Canine Distemper- a disease spread via air or direct contact with an infected dog. It has gastrointestinal, nervous and respiratory effect. Indications and symptoms consist of loss of appetite, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing and seizures. Systematic treatment is done for this disease. It has no definite treatment.
4.       Lyme disease- a illness transmitted via infected insect’s bite. Signs include arthritis, lethargy, pain and loss of appetite.
5.       Leptospirosis- bacterial infection that is transmitted through nasal secretions, urine or saliva of an infected dog. It may lead to kidney and liver harm.
6.       Rabies- the most dreadful disease of all. It affects the dog’s central nervous system. It may lead to paralysis and death. It is also called hydrophobia because when dogs get this infection, they become afraid of water. Symptoms include, sensitivity to noise, uncalled-for biting,  and paralysis.
7.       Bordatella- this is an airborne disease commonly associated with Kennel cough. Signs and symptoms include persistent hacking and coughing, nasal discharge and sneezing. If you think that your dog has this infection, try pressing the dog’s  adam apple gently, if he coughs instantly, he is most likely to have this disease. In puppies, this may lead to pneumonia when not treated. Antibiotics are sometimes used for this infection.
8.       Infectious Canine Hepatitis or Adenovirus- is spread via direct contact with the infected animal. Liver, kidney, cell lining and blood vessels are some parts that this affects. Symptoms include thirst, loss of appetite, liver damage, lethargy and inflammation of nose and mouth.
