My Older Dog Lost Her Appetite Due To Illness. When She Refuses Food So Does My Healthy Dog. Unusual? Help?

Healthy dog is confused. Separate them for feeding time. Feed the old dog where she’s used to. Feed healthy dog someplace else. Talk to healthy dog & tell him why. Stay with him & sweetly urge him to eat.

She is probably telling the healthy dog that there is something wrong with the food. Try feeding them separately, and if you haven’t yet, take the sick dog to the vet so it can get better soon.

You don’t say what her illness is, but you vet has some canned food call I/D that even most sick dogs will eat. She may even eat cat food, but ask your vet if that’s OK. Dogs won’t eat what they can’t smell, which becomes a problem when they get sick, especially after taking some medications.
If it’s hard kibble, can she chew it, or would she eat it if you soaked it in water to soften it up? You could add a tiny bit of cat food, and hope it made it interesting enough to eat…
As for healthy dog, you can make a gravy out of a teaspoon of some canned food that is similar to what they are already eating, so as to make it a bit more special. Feed them somewhere else, so they are not worried about old dog. Perhaps if you took healthy dog out for a ride, or a walk, it would be enough of a change of scenery so they would eat…
    Give’em both a pat from me…good luck!

FEED THE DOGS SEPERATELY BUT TRY TO GET BOTH TO EAT. IF THIS CONTINUES, SEE THE VET.
