What Is The Best All Round Small Dog Breed?

by wendy on December 18, 2009

it has to be cute =) what does everyone think is the best small dog breed that has minimal health problems etc and a relatively easy to care for.

Toy Poodles.
No, they aren’t fake.
and, no you don’t have to give them the poodle cut.
they’re about the size of Paris Hiltons dog, so they easily fit in your hand.
if you wanted something smaller, there are also teacup poodles.
they fit in your hand.
They don’t have any common illnesses, they only thing they need is a heartworm pill and the common shots every so often, as do every dog.
and, they are SO easy to care for.
all they need is a bit of food, and love.
but, i don’t recommend them for kids.
because, they are known to be guard dogs. they bark quite often, it’s a trait. and they are biters. nothing you can’t train though.

SHELTER MUTTS!!!
They’re temperment tested, inexpensive and come with lots of extras.
You’re saving a life too.

I really like my parents Boston Terrier. They are prone to hip problems though. And they can’t get too hot.
I think she is a wonderful dog. She is loving, a good watchdog, and is the perfect size to fit in your lap.
Research the breed and see if the breed has the qualities you are looking for.

We love pomeranians and yorkies. Even hybrid porkies (cross breeding of a purebred pom with a purebred yorkie) are good. Both breeds are very smart, as are the porkies.
Our poms weigh 3.5 and 5.5 pounds, our yorkie weighs 8 pounds. Definitely great lap dogs.

A hybrid dog has less health problems due to hybrid vigor. So I would suggest getting a small hybrid/mix, such as a yorkie/maltese, bichon/yorkie, bichon/toy poodle, shih tzu/bichon etc. There are A LOT. Try not to go for dogs that are less than four pounds (ie teacup puppies) because they are much too small and they also have a lot of health problems. Also, they are WAY expensive even though it should be the other way around since they are so unhealthy and fragile.
There is no best dog breed, it depends on your lifestyle. Also, each hybrid looks different because it depends on if they get most of their genes from Mom or Dad.
